      <image:title>History</image:title>
<image:caption>Fort Worden (Port Townsend, WA) Fort Worden State Park is located on 432 acres of breathe-taking land on the northern edge of Port Townsend, Washington. The fort was originally constructed between 1898 and 1917, and operated as an active Army base until 1953 before it was purchased by the state and converted into a juvenile detention facility. In 1971 the Fort and its hidden gun emplacements, expansive parade lawns and Victorian-era Officers homes were transferred to Washington State Parks, and two years later Fort Worden State Park was officially opened to the public.</image:caption>
